SCR Catalyst Testing

Groome partners with industry-leading independent catalyst testing labs to provide the most comprehensive results. These tests replicate your plant’s current operating conditions to take the guess work out of predicting catalyst end of life. The tests also include chemical and physical analysis to help determine sources of catalyst performance losses.

SCR Catalyst Cleaning

In-Situ Mechanical Cleaning is the standard method used to clean SCR catalyst’s. The benefits of this cleaning methods include minimizing pressure drop, improving turbine efficiency, reducing ammonia slip and maximizing the catalyst’s useful life.

In-Situ Mechanical Cleaning
Catalyst blocks are air-blast cleaned from the downstream side with dried and filtered air using regulated pressures and proprietary nozzles to prevent damage to the catalyst. Upstream faces are then vacuum cleaned to remove bulk foreign object debris and assist in drawing out contaminants.

Groome gets you setup for on-line cleaning by installing custom ports and doing so is simple. We only need to know the following:
• Wall Design: Thickness and insulation depth
• Pressure: Positive or negative
• Interior Impedances: Location and design

Concerned about Stack Particulates?
On-line catalyst cleaning employs vacuum pull only, with no downstream blowing. All debris/masking/foulant material is removed from the catalyst, putting up to 27″ of pressure in a vacuum bag, not in the gas path.

SCR Catalyst Repacking & Restacking

Over time, the effects of constant airflow can cause shifting of the catalyst blocks or the insulation surrounding them. Depending on the severity of this shifting, a catalyst repacking or restacking may be required.

Catalyst Repacking
During normal operation, it is possible for insulation to shift or move out of place, creating extra bypass and effecting system performance. A basic repacking of these materials in the effected areas can help fix minor performance issues.

Catalyst Restacking
It is also possible for areas of SCR catalysts to actually shift out of place, creating much larger system performance issues. The restacking process involves the unstacking, reinsulating, and repositioning of all the catalyst blocks in the effected area. Depending on the severity and location of these shifted catalysts, a full system restacking may be required.

Our industry partnerships allow us to take the headache and guesswork out of the proper disposal of spent catalysts. Catalysts are transported off-site, all steel is recycled and the catalyst is mechanically deconstructed.

Groome’s in-house engineering team works closely with several HRSG and catalyst OEM’s when sourcing your new catalysts. During the replacement, Groome is responsible for all scaffolding, crane support, rigging, and welding services needed for a smooth installation.
